London Eye

November 1st, 2010 by Andy Chan

Thats me, Andy Chan, that picture was taken by Megan Currie when the graphic class was at the London Eye. In my own opinion, I thought going on the London Eye was the best part of the entireschool trip, because I got to see the unique landscape of the city of London. We also had some class photos on the Eye, I found it funny how our class have too many people and not everyone could fit in some of the shot. You see that picture of me sitting on the rail acting all cool about it, just to let you guys know that I’m really scared of heights, my heart almost jumped out at that point…. :P

St. Pauls Cathedral

October 28th, 2010 by Ross Cameron

On Friday we made our way to St. Pauls Cathedral, we travelled by the london tube to a station near st. pauls and walked past some interesting monuments which I have no idea what they are called but are both featured in the slidshow above.

St. Pauls was very enjoyable as inside the cathedral it looked fantastic, although we were not allowed to take photos inside.  Once we had a quick look around the inside of te cathedral we made our way up to the whispering gallery which was 257 steps, and from there to the stone gallery which was another 376 steps and finally to the golden gallery adding another 528 steps.  So in total we climbed 1,161 steps to the top.

The view from the top was super and well worth the hike up to the top.

Tickling a whale with an octopus.

These are some photos I took while in London on a school design trip.  We were away for five days travelling by train both ways.  We were up early and arrived back at the hostel late each night which gave us large amounts of time to go to see iconic land marks as well as lesser known places.  We were given a several hours of free time each day allowing us to explore the famous city.  Each night we ate out and had a scheduled event (for example west end shows, bowling, Imax film). I saw ‘We will rock you’ which was AMAZING. Some nights when we got back we went for a late night snack at Donimo’s.

This slide show  includes my favourites from London Zoo, Victoria and Albert Museum, iconic land marks such as the Tower of London, views from the London eye and two pictures that were taken of the group outside the Eye.

Note: picture slide show still to be added.

Fake tattoos at Camden

October 28th, 2010 by Rachel ODonnell

On the Sunday, all of us went to Camden to go shopping, and before we all split up we were told very clearly by Mr Stevenson not to get tattoos or anything, because just about every other shop in Camden was a tattoo shop. So me, Emma and Sarah decided to get transfers from one of the shops and pretend to Mr Stevenson that they were real, cause it would be pretty funny. We managed to find a shop that sold fake tattoos and avoided being really ripped off because the people who own shops in Camden seem to think Scottish people have no idea how much fake tattoos should actually cost. Then, after wondering about for ages trying to find a bathroom to put them on, we found a hotel that let us use their bathroom and put the tattoos on. I put a tattoo of a tiger behind my ear (in the photo), Sarah had a tattoo of a dolphin on her hand and Emma put a star on her wrist. Then later on at the Restaraunt, Connor put a tattoo of Winnie The Pooh on his neck. Mr Stevenson beleived us to start off with, it was quite funny, but we told him that they weren’t real and everyone giggled and it was great.

# This city never sleeps.

London 2010.

Every year, as part of the Advance Higher Graphics/Higher Product Design course in sixth year, Mr. Black takes a group of students down to London for a long weekend.  I think we can safely say it was a memorable trip, defiantly one of the highlights of the year so far.  (:

We left after school on Thursday and returned on Monday, both ways by train.

It was a very busy weekend, with no time for rest – we constantly seemed to be on the move.  Up and down St. Paul’s, a walk along the Thames – needless to say I was shattered by the time we got back!

After our trip to Harrods, we stopped in Hyde Park for lunch.  Rory had bought wheels for his shoes – here we can see Emma and Connor trying them out, which was rather amusing to watch.  (;

We were very lucky with the weather while we away, and although it was cold, every day was dry.

In this photo, Robert, Adam and Megan are enjoying some free time before a busy night.  We went to see Avatar in 3D on the UK’s largest screen at the IMAX.

While in London, we also got to see a Westend show, went to Camden Market, Brick Lane, the Design Museum and London Zoo just to name a few.

Megan & Mr Stevenson, London Zoo

The trip was full of laughs, one of which was Mr. Stevenson’s new favourite game.. ‘Monkey Look-Alikes’.

Megan had her birthday when we were in London, a stressful morning for me!

After getting off the tube the night before, I went straight to the 24-hour store beside our hostel and bought ingredients for a make-shift birthday cake. (A Madeira sponge, Nutella for icing and M&M’s for the top!)

Here we can see Megan and Mr. Stevenson with Megan’s monkey look-alike, bought from London Zoo.

Overall I can say that this trip has been the highlight of sixth year so far.  Even now we still laugh over forgotten moments in class, and share our favourite memories.

Pupil Access to Fundon’s Media Library

October 23rd, 2010 by Ross Cameron

This is a test post to check if pupils have access to the photos already uploaded by others, to allow them to be added to a post as a thumbnail image – that opens to full size when clicked.

…And it appears that pupils do have access to media uploaded by others.

While logged in as Ross I notice that pupils may not add new categories.  In this case, pupils should select the most appropriate one available meantime and I’ll see if it’s possible to change pupil account permissions to fix this in future.  Update – fixed this – access now granted to add categories.

Meet up in London

Having previously been on this trip (as a pupil), and currently enrolled on a PGCE course,  i was really happy to help out for the weekend. I firstly met up with the group in China town and from there proceeded with 6 others to the Palladium to watch Sister Act. From there we went for a walk along the Thames before i had to get the train back to Cambridge.

The following morning i met the group outside the Victoria and Albert Museum and spent most of my time walking around with Mr Black. From there we had lunch in Hyde Park and the rest of the day was free time to look around London. Myself and Mr Black took a walk around Hyde Park and then eventually onto Grosvenor Square.  We came across some interesting window displays at Louis Vuitton, which were centered around ostrich’s. We eventually met up with the rest of the group in Trafalgar Square and went for dinner.

I had a great time in London and had a good time chatting to the pupils and finding out their plans for university and life after school. If any of the pupils would like advice on design courses at university then they are more than welcome to drop me an email.

Thanks for having me on the trip

The Apple Store

On the Friday morning, several of us visited the new Apple store in Covent Garden.

The store is a sparkling conversion of an old building.  A new glazed roof converts an outside courtyard in to a double height internal space. The upper level around the courtyard is accessed via a glass spiral staircase.

The IPads were the star attractions in the store, with a lot of the floor area devoted to them.  Connor and Robbie spent some time using one to play a simple ping-pong game, and Hamish and Ross sat using them for quite a while.

Temporary Graphics

October 2nd, 2010 by Jim Black

We’re still waiting for the site header graphic to be provided by Connor and Sarah, with Craig’s brick wall perhaps as a site background. Meantime, here is my attempt at a browser icon, which I’ve uploaded this morning.

The icon is based on the London Underground roundel, modified with Royal High colours.

When scaled down to 16 x 16 pixels in size, for use as a ‘favicon.ico’, it reads reasonably. With more experimentation, I expect that the stripes could display better though.
